This program assumes no prior knowledge of finance or accounting. Students will gain a solid foundational understanding of financial management for human services professionals, including budgeting skills such as basic financial ratios; risk and reward; depreciation; the time value of money; interpreting financial statements; management of fee-for-service; IRS rules that affect nonprofits; the uses of long-term, intermediate, and short-term financing; issues of agency; fund development; fundraising; grant writing and grant management; and financial and organizational ethics.
